Stand-up Paddling off Makena

Jan 30, 2011

Stand-up paddle boarding from Makena Landing on the way to Molokini (it was green and that is very rare) we saw many whales. But photographing whales with a waterproof camera while balancing on a board is not that easy, especially since this was my first time on a stand-up paddle board. But we caught the weather as it was changing from Tradewinds to Kona weather and the sea was calm and glassy.

The whales were there, believe me! Just a bit hard to see in the photos.

Observing a whale off Makena. See insert for whale!

The whale is there, just hard to see…

Approaching Molokini.

Getting closer!

Turned back towards Makena.
WHALE TAIL!

Red Hill. Just behind is Little Beach, the unofficial nude beach of Maui and beyond that, Big Beach, which you must check out.

Hoping to make standup paddling part of my marine sporting life!
